Who has amazing parents? I do!
A few months ago I did my first market, and I asked my parents if they could help me with the market that day. Well of course my mom went above and beyond. Since she knew she would be bringing the trailer to Tucson, she kept an eye out for amazing furniture in her area.
She pulled through on many pieces; these are just one example.
I wasn't familiar with the logo stamped on the inside of the drawer "Cal Shops" but upon inspection, we found they were solid wood, dovetail construction, and in great condition. You know, the whole sha-bang! Just what I love!
After the market, these babies got put in the back of my hoard stash where I forgot all about them. Recently I was looking for a smaller project to do inside since it is blazing hot outside. I found them hiding away and got excited all over again!
I had been wanting to try out this new color by blending and layering Annie Sloan's Aubusson Blue and Florence and thought these were the perfect pieces for it!
I started out by lightly painting each nightstand in Aubusson, leaving some wood showing here and there. Then I painted a coat of Florence over the Aubusson Blue. After letting it all dry again, I mixed the two paints (3 parts aubusson blue to 1 part florence), added a touch of water to thin the paint just a bit, and lightly painted one last time with my custom mix, making sure to leave the last two coats showing through a bit.
For the hardware I scrubbed each handle with Bar Keepers Friend until the handles were looking shiny and new.
Each nightstand received a rub down from the sanding block and 2 coats of polyurethane.
I could just stare at this color all day long. It has a depth that pulls me in and makes me wish I had a place to keep them.
I love the extra storage of the drawer and the shelf to display so many beautiful things!
I can't wait to paint another piece in this color!
Thanks for following along! And don't forget, I love to hear from you! Please comment below.
Have a great week!!
