The Adorable Upcycled Red Bench Makeover

Vintage head board and foot board makeover
Who doesn't love these little benches made out of vintage beds? I have been looking for the perfect head board and foot board to up-cycle into an adorable bench and we finally found the perfect set!

I spotted them while at a fun little vintage market for only $10! They were missing the side rails, so I didn't feel one bit guilty with my plans to transform them.

We cut the finials from the head board to add to the legs of the foot board. Without the added height the seat would have been right in the middle of the spindles and we didn't want that! The leftovers were put back onto the headboard to be finials again.
We attached the sides of the bench with pocket screws and glue and added extra support beams for the seat.

It was quite the labor of love, but the finished product was totally worth it!

Once the bench was built, Jessica snatched it right up and asked for a deep red finish and a dark walnut seat. She wanted to be able to have it outside (Ummm yes please!) so we used General Finishes Exterior 450 Satin  as the topcoat.

I absolutely love that we were able to bring this old bed back to life and give it a new purpose!
