Hello hello!
I'm so excited to share with you a little bit about one of our most popular
pinned painted furniture pieces yet! And how it was transformed, even after it was done.
This is what it looked like when we brought it home. You know, the usual. Worn out, scratched and dinged up.

Inside of the cabinet space used to be 3 drawers. But we wanted to create a media console or TV stand out of it, so we removed 2 of the drawers and their runners. Then we added thin plywood to the bottom and sides of each cubby to create a space for the electronics. We used brad nails and glue to hold everything in place.
Once the new shelving was built, we stripped the old finish off and painted it a really pretty navy blue with our favorite
paint sprayer. Then the top got a fresh coat of dark walnut stain.
Now here's the twist. If you have been on my
Etsy shop, you'll see that the last image looks like it's a different piece almost! I promise, it's the same piece. But here's what happened.
My customer turned client contacted me after seeing this console on Etsy. She loved it, but was worried that it would be too bright for her home. After messaging back and forth, we came up with a way to create a deeper darker finish without having to repaint the whole thing a darker color.
We glazed the whole thing with black glaze, and then sealed it all up again for extra durability. This was such a better alternative to repainting the piece completely over. It would have been almost like starting from the beginning. Instead we were able to create a deeper finish in less time, and create a unique finish at the same time.
Which way do you prefer it? With or without the black glaze?
